This suburb is actually arresting and in some cases jailing people over trivial municipal violations like improper fencing, non-compliant dealing with garbage cans, or even having weeds or too tall grass. Example:

This is the sort of thing libertarians flip out about and are actually correct on. Hopefully the coming lawsuit puts an end to this.

Yeah, this is actually nanny-statism, and horrifically anti-poor nanny-statism at that.

LOL. It's well known that if I ever took control of a municipality I'd stop enforcing any laws I disagree with and thus the place would probably become a haven for escorts and marijuana dealers.

So would conservatives be allowed to live in your hypothetical municipality?

I don't have any kids, so why on earth should I rank quality of schools at all?

What act of ego does it require to believe that your priorities are the only ones worth considering? This is speaking, in general, as to why a person would choose to live in a certain place--not why you do what you do.

Most people also consider crime as well.

Unless of course you enjoy 'medium levels of crime' which would broaden your potential choices.

IIRC, BRTD prefers living in moderate-crime areas because "low-crime areas tend to be boring areas", or something.

It'll affect the rent you pay if you're a renter and the resale value of your home if you're an owner.

Well the good news is it appears they have decided to scale back this nonsense a couple years later: https://www.startribune.com/suburbs-nixing-aging-rules-and-regulations/600065109

Wow, sounds like an HOA gone mad and given police powers.

Still, I’ll take it over that town in NH that got taken over by libertarians and then invaded by bears because no one tells me not to leave my trash out.

And can we please stop saying nanny-state, that’s a term invented by a corporate sh**tweasel to demonice the idea that government can help people.

Nah it applies in a lot of cases, even if not the above (for a more major example see: marijuana prohibition.)

It was designed by Frank Lutz as part of his crusade to end workplace protections. That it caught on with kids trying to be edgy doesn’t mean we should validate this framing.

How dare you.  What exactly is wrong with paying a monthly fee to a random group of mysterious neighbors for the privilege of allowing them to fine you for not pushing your trash cans three feet further away from your own driveway, or requiring their permission to repaint your own front door or change out some bushes in your front yard?  It’s the very spirit of America, you communist.

(* all of those examples happened to me in suburban Las Vegas)

(** yes I’m aware I’m responding to a post from six years ago)

What would you propose to describe things like this or marijuana prohibition then?
