For the primary at least. By running a quiet campaign and staying above the fray while putting resources in Iowa, south Carolina, and nevada.he could he rise at the right time and win early primaries, and all the other viable candidates will at that time be too burned out to stop his momentum. Does it seem like Rubio 's trying to replicate John Kerry's successful 2004 primary strategy?

I've never thought of it, but it's a good link campaign wise. Kerry was never seen as the frontrunner, and imo it should be seen as one of the great primary campaigns considering he absolutely creamed the rest of the field

He got a bit lucky too, though. Already after Iowa, the narrative that John Kerry was the "presidential" and "electable" one in the democratic field took hold and was furthered by his win in New Hampshire and the meltdown of the Howard Dean campaign.

But yeah, I could easily see one the GOP candidates emerging at the last minute before Iowa and then riding a wave for a while, perhaps even to the end. That candidate could be Rubio, but it could also be someone else (I still haven't written off Christie).

Thank you.

In the analogy maybe immigration=Iraq War which Kerry voted to authorize? But Rubio has flipped a bit like Kerry but hasn't yet abandoned the idea of amnesty. Maybe he will. Also, Kerry married rich. Rubio just has a sugar daddy.

(I still haven't written off Christie).

You should.

That was quick.

Kerry was never seen as the frontrunner...

Huh?  Kerry was the frontrunner for the first half of 2003 (taking over as frontrunner once Gore said he wasn't running).  Not that he was leading many polls during that time.  Lieberman was leading most polls, but everyone understood that that was an artifact of name recognition.  Kerry was the one widely considered as the frontrunner, until Dean usurped that position in mid/late-summer of 2003, before giving it back to Kerry when Kerry won Iowa.

I think Bush 2016 is a little more like Gephardt 2004 - an out-of-date establishment candidate whose position in the party has faded.

Dean's "scream" speech was a result of his campaign imploding that later was rewritten to be the cause of it.

No, Kerry was thought of as boring, not incompetent.
