I'll give a definition of relevant for you - any statewide or US/state legislature race. I'll even give you county executive or big city mayor. Just to differentiate from board of ed/small time town council. Use your senses.

I'd be interested in it but I'd probably be a bad candidate. I think I'd be better in a behind the scenes role on a campaign.

Yes.

I have a very distinct plan for what I want to do when I grow up (created >1 year ago), and as a naive 14-year-old, I'm absolutely convinced that it can be done.

✓ 2001 - Be Born
✓ 2006 - Graduate Pre-School and Enter Elementary School
✓ 2012 - Graduate Elementary School and Enter Middle School
✓ 2015 - Graduate Middle School and Enter High School
2017 - Enter North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
2019 - Graduate from NCSSM and Enter Harvard Kennedy School
2025 - Earn PhD in Public Policy from HKS
2025 - Move from Cambridge, Massachusetts (where HKS is located) to Wilmington, Massachusetts (it's like two inches away from Cambridge and also shares the name of the city I currently live in)
2026 - Run for Congress in MA's 5th Congressional District (by 2026, Wilmington & Cambridge are in the same CD)
2028 - Be Reelected to Congress
2030 - Be Reelected to Congress
2032 - Run for Senate (Markey or successor retires)
2036 - Run for President
2040 - Be Reelected to Presidency (abolish 22nd Amendment as well)
2044 - Reelected
2048 - Reelected
2052 - Reelected
2056 - Reelected
2060 - Reelected
2064 - Reelected
2068 - Reelected
2072 - Reelected
2076 - Decide to retire after  ten terms in office and many accomplishments, such as (a) expanding the United States to rule over the entire world, (b) getting a girlfriend, and (c) perfecting the universe by finding a way for living organisms to become immortal, finding a way to bring dead organisms to come back to life, and finding a way to make the universe the ideal utilitarian society by creating an infinite number of all hypothetical forms of life

THE END

P.S. This is actually what I want to do when I grow up; I know it won't happen but it would be so cool if it did.

Haha no way. I enjoy the freedom of being able to honestly speak my mind without career-related repercussions. The only way I could ever consider a run is if I were thoroughly convinced I could withstand the strain of a campaign without changing a single view on any issue for political gain. I am not there and doubt I ever will be. Also meeting people for trivial conversation and trying to stay personable with them is exhausting.

Like TJ I'm bad at bulls**ting and even worse at towing the party line. I wouldn't stand a chance even if I was, anyway.

Also meeting people for trivial conversation and trying to stay personable with them is exhausting.

This is funny because when I saw Hillary walking through the Iowa Fair, I literally said to my brother, I feel so bad for her. She has to walk through this place to listen to people tell her boring, irrelevant stories about her personal life and nonsense tragedies that everyone has to deal with. I may hate her and she may be a robot, but gosh darn it, if she's been doing this for the last 20 years just with the hope of maybe one day being President, then maybe we just oughta give it to her. I can't imagine a more cruel fate than this being done for nothing. Why these hicks feel the need to tell them about themselves like they mean anything at all is unfathomable.

As for the rest of your comment, I agree quite a bit even though most of my views aren't that strong. If I were to run for something, which I have little to no intention of, it would obviously be state treasurer or something that gets no publicity. Even then, I'll always be living in the shadow of AAD's "Faverit Allabamah Politizhun" Young Boozer.

All of us are too jaded for public office Tongue

The biggest problem I'd have is that it requires a stupid amount of brown nosing in the UK to get, you either have to deal with the most trival issues like bin collection times as a Councillor or work in parliament as one of the dreaded interns.

At least US politics gives you tons of irrelevant offices Tongue

No. I've discovered volunteering for campaigns that I HATE canvassing, which pretty rules out any elected office in Canada.

Yes, I'd love to at least run for office. Would I win? Probably not, given that my views are out of touch with the majority of people basically everywhere, and I would have a hard time running as a major party candidate given that I loathe those two institutions so much. I couldn't help telegraphing "hey, I'm only running as a Republican/Democrat to make myself electorally viable, but really I hate these guys as much as you do" constantly. Then again, if the 2016 Presidential primaries so far have been any indication, that might help me.

I could see myself getting a talk radio show, making a name for myself, and then running for President, setting a Libertarian Party record of maybe 1.5%.

I could also see myself as someone in some kind of strategic role in the Libertarian Party. I have some ideas--for one thing, marketing the party to different groups of people. It's an ideology that really works for everyone, and having an image as only for young white males on the internet doesn't help us at all. Also marketing the ideology as more sophisticated than simply people who like weed but hate taxes.
