This is big. Progressives have been asking for this for years, and it's one of the big things that ObamaCare didn't do enough on. Medical costs is one of the biggest issues facing the country.

It depends on who's paying the bill. It could be pharmacies, insurance companies, or pharmaceutical industry.

If it's pharmacies, they'll stop ordering those drugs and you'll see shortages.
If it's insurance companies, you'll see premiums go up on everybody, to cover for these expenses.
If it's pharmaceutical industry, you'll see a drop in production of those drugs.

It seems to me she intends to charge insurance companies for this to avoid creating drug shortages.

This needs to be further analyzed and carefully considered to avoid undesired rises of insurance premiums.

This is ridiculous. She wants to stop price gouging by pharmaceutical companies so she goes after insurance companies! You really think capping how much an insurance company can charge patients will change how much the pharmaceutical company charges the insurance company? This is not a serious proposal, just some populist poppycock designed to gain votes from people who don't have a f'in clue why their drug prices are so high.

They know their bread and butter is the insurance system. Price controls in that system will have knock on effects.

It will lead to higher premiums and more drugs not being covered by insurance companies. Hillary was very careful in noting this only applied to covered medications. I am not sure if the price cap would be in effect if a formulary exception was made on an individual basis.

Insurance companies will also have an easier time raising premiums now that they have Obamacare to blame. The real solution is to institute price caps on the pharmaceutical companies who actually set the prices.

Hillary isn't just talking about insurance. She's talking about lowering the actual costs too, through Medicare and other means.

Letting Medicare negotiate drug prices would be a very good thing. That would be much better than a cap on what people pay at pharmacies because they would end up paying for it in other ways, or might not get the medications they need covered by insurance.

This will never pass unless the Democrats pick-up Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, New Hampshire, Missouri, North Carolina, and probably Alaska or Arizona. As this is slightly unlikely, I's advise cutting the individual mandate alongside it.

Putting aside sbane's someone that Hillary shot her missile against the wrong target, the tradeoff in price regulating drug prices, is that there will be less future drug research (it's basically a one time confiscation of drug companies' future cash flow from sunk costs. I assume no progress has been made on my proposal that drug companies should not be allowed to charge higher prices in the US than other nations, except for whatever demonstrated cost savings there are from volume sales to single national government buyers.

Well, if Trump is the Republican nominee...
