Here’s the schedule for general election debates next year:

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/09/2016-presidential-debate-schedule-set-213980

Monday, Sept. 26: 1st presidential debate: Wright State University, Dayton, OH
Tuesday, Oct. 4: Vice presidential debate: Longwood University, Farmville, VA
Sunday, Oct. 9: 2nd presidential debate: Washington University, St. Louis, MO
Wednesday, Oct. 19: 3rd presidential debate: University of Nevada, Las Vegas, NV

Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY will be a backup site, in case any of these four sites has to cancel.

The moderators, formats, etc., have yet to be decided.

Normally, all of the broadcast networks simulcast each debate.  However, this will be the first time since NBC took over Sunday Night Football that a presidential debate will be on Sunday.  So what are they going to do?  Will NBC not broadcast that debate?  Or will the NFL simply not schedule a primetime game that night (or just put it on ESPN or NFL Network instead)?

Yup. They're the ones who shut down the schools for more than a year to try and stop integration.

Ugh, I was hoping that Nashville would be selected (it was a finalist), so I could see it live.

I don't understand why some of the primary debates are still TBD but the GE ones aren't...

The Farmville, VA one looks reasonably close; I hope I can go! Cheesy But do they just let people into debates?

You probably need to know the right people, but I don't know for sure.

Sunday night October 9th? I thought they usually tried to avoid going up against the NFL?

I think it's our patriotic duty to stack all of these debate audiences with Atlas forum regulars.

Glad to see that none of the debates are in Safe D/R states, unlike in 2012 when they held the VP debate in KY and the Town Hall debate in NY. Candidates should have an audience of those whose votes actually matter in our system.

As I recall, one of the posters here attended the 2012 primary debate in which Perry had his "oops" moment.  Anyone remember who that was?

Well that's a downer, a personal friend of some staffer can get in ahead of someone else.

I thought the audiences of these debates were predominantly composed of local university students and faculty.

The Town Hall debate has a carefully chosen audience of undecided voters of varying ages. Not sure about the rest.

I hope Atlas can infiltrate the Town Hall debate.  We could get questions like:

-Opinion of Viktor Orban: FF or HP?
-What is your average number of internet posts per day?
-Opinion of the preceding debater's signature?
-What are you listening to right now?
-Did you agree with the opebo banning?  Discuss with maps.
-Is Miley Cyrus a virgin?

it will 99% be likely the same style debates as previous cycles, only the Dem and GOP nominee (no third parties), silence by audience, some generic moderator, same look etc.

I'm already planning to head to Dayton for the first debate.

Sunday night debate while Sunday Night Football on NBC is on? If it is Clinton vs. Bush, then no one will watch.

The Virginia debate would be good, especially if the Democratic VP choice is Kaine. Good for Southern Democratic politics of today.
