I really wish I knew more about the infighting between him and H. H. Asquith.

To be precise, he was a key figure in introducing the British welfare state before he became a wartime PM. Not that it diminishes his accomplishments in any way.

Lloyd George was a fascinating figure on both political and personal levels. In addition to his domestic achievements, he was a very effective wartime leader (after Asquith, who did a halfass job). There certain things I don't like about him, mostly relating to his post-powers years, but FF nonetheless.

You just have to love him, despite everything. What a magnificent bastard.

Yes. In all fairness, the strange events of interwar politics kind of elude me, so I mainly judge him based on his time in government.

Replacing him with such an unentity as Bonar is one of history's many poor jokes.

From what little I know of him, seems like a FF overall.

Would it not be inaccurate to call him the FDR of Britain?

-Introduced welfare programs.
-Led the country through a major war.
-Known by three names.

Obviously it's not exact, but it's an interesting parallel.

You could also draw a parallel to Martin Van Buren: the 3 name deal, but they're also the only holders of those offices (US President, British PM) to not speak English as a first language. After that the analogy breaks down like John Boehner at the end of Toy Story 3.

"Van" and "Buren" are not two diffrent names. It's one name.
