My friend came out tonight as a 9/11 truther and kept arguing with me that "the CIA" brought down the WTC.  I tried refuting it but there was no getting through.  Do you guys have any friends like this too?  I'm not really sure how to handle it, because its just so dumb.  I've never picked my friends before based off of politics but this is really bothering me more than most things.  Its kind of embarrassing

I wouldn't call him a friend, but I've got a co-worker that believes in pretty much anything he reads, sees, hears, feels, thinks, imagines, whatever.  Here is a certainly inconclusive list of sh**t he's brought to my attention:
moon base on the "dark" side of it
red haired giants in New England
big foot (and that swamp thing in the south)
a perpetual motion device that he was building himself
the usual ufos, jfk, 9-11 crap you get from the insane (though sadly, never combining all 3)

There has got to be another half dozen....at least.  I kind of tuned him out years ago.

It amuses me the amount of people out there who simultaneously believe government is incompetent and can't do anything right but also supposedly pulled off one of the greatest cover-ups ever.

Some of my old school buddies on fb occasionally link to a 9/11 truther site or YouTube vid...some BBC vid of the second tower falling in the background seems to be the most common one.

I've read about how the Mossad was responsible for bringing down the two towers.

I had a friend explain it to me like this. [Paraphrasing] "In the 90s, there was a global mobilization against the IMF, the World Bank, the other institutions upholding the Washington Consensus. States were defaulting on their debt to repudiate those institutions, millions of people across the world were mobilizing. And then the towers came down and all that disappeared. Criticizing Bush, the army, the west became blasphemous. Popular mobilizations went from threatening the powers that be to marching around holding signs. And that did  all; see Iraq. Speech was chilled for a decade. Now I'm [they're] not saying it was an inside job or anything. But it sure was convenient, don't you think?"

I wouldn't say we were friends, but I knew someone in college who thought the CIA was behind 9/11.

Anyway, basically everyone at my school says 9/11 was an inside job (albeit sarcastically).

I think my uncle might be one. He's kind of weird and believes in all sorts of crazy conspiracy theories.

Acquaintences I've had over the years and a few family members, though I don't know if any of them still do. The subject hasn't come up in a few years now.

My uncle is actually a 9/11 truther. Granted he believes a lot of the other conspiracy stuff too, believes Darren Wilson was in the KKK, and that LBJ killed Kennedy.
