He knows he's being voted out of leadership when he prevents a shutdown, and doesn't want to stick around after that. Good for him.

You are all likely going to hate his replacement.

You don't like Kevin McCarthy?

One word: Bakersfield.

This is a sad moment for America. Boehner is a true patriot and pragmatist. He had an extremely tough job over the past few years but I don't think anyone else would have done any better. Extreme right wingers have cut short the career of one of the Republican Party's finest leaders.  We are moving down a dark path as a party and country.

Quick Question: Do the votes exist to bypass the Hastert Rule and pass the Senate Immigration Reform bill before Boehner resigns?

Would you like to see the government shut down indefinitely?

The fact that there are 12 year old Louie Gohmert fans out there is deeply disturbing.

I'm sure every real possibility for Speaker is absolutely terrible. But I hope it's not McCarthy, he's got a real vendetta against California's HSR.

Did anyone else watch him skipping, singing "Zip A Dee Doo Dah, My Oh My What A Wonderful Day" on the way to his resignation speech, and singing it again as he left?

That was by far the HAPPIEST resignation I've ever seen.

Yeah, no, totally didn't see this coming.

The Republicans continue to eat their own in the name of a never-reachable standard of ideological purity.

When you take a high school civics class in the 11th grade you'll realize why this is a terrible idea.

Anywho, I back McCarthy.

Thank you, Speaker Boehner for your service. I haven't always agreed w/ him on everything, but he is the best person, as a individual, to be Speaker in a long time.

I honestly hope Justin Amash runs for the SPeakership

I hope he becomes Speaker.

Really though, I want him to run for President in 2020/2024 and win.

Politicians like Justin Amash, that's what this country needs, but I'm afriad it's not what it deserves.

It shouldn't, because at that age, one tends to be occupied more with entertainment than serious stuff (like good governance).
