this amendment would provide for independence and set some rules for the transitional period, in the form of a simple constitutional amendment this time.

The wording is confusing. So, is the amendment supposed to take effect after a hypothetical win for "YES" in an independence referendum, or is this essentially a unilateral declaration of independence?

we're replacing the yes-no vote with an amendment ratification vote, basically. the amendment is clear enough about its purpose that this isn't like misleading or anything

So the voters would vote on this amendment, and we are just debating on the final amendment to send to them?

I know my influence on amendments tends to be low and I'm the leader of the unity option, but I'd really like to see either a 50% turnout threshold or a requirement of more than a simple majority for the referendum to pass. This is a big decision, and I think that it really needs a clear mandate if it passes. (Also, there is the precedent of the original bill having one.)

That's not currently required for constitutional amendments to pass.  You'd have to amend the constitution to make that threshold possible.  I'm not sure that it can be done in one step - though I suppose if this amendment said that a 50% turnout threshold was required for this amendment to pass, it might work.

Good idea overall - should independence win out, there needs to be a formal transitionary period. The 'yes or no' referendum left me a little confused about how this would happen, but doing this as an amendment is always an option.

Would we set up our own registry of voters and how would we want to handle that?

I'm in favour of this. I can't see anything that would need to be modified in this bill.

I request that we close the debate for voting - seeing as this is the third attempt at passing a referendum (on independence) bill.

standard debating period is over in 9 hours anyway, so we'll do it then.

I will still vote against anything resembling a step towards secession, so debate is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.
