When a woman/gay/african/asian/atheist/jew/muslim/indian/immigrant become an important leader, we hear much more often that "he (or she) is the first _________ to become _________" if he (or she) is leftist than if he (or she) is rightist. Most of the people who say that "he (or she) is the first _________ to become _________" are left-wing. For them, a member of a minority becoming an important leader is a great historical event only if he (or she) is left-wing. Most of the people on the right don't care if a member of a minority is becoming an important leader.
Some people on the left and some people on the right don't understand very well minorities on the right. Some leftists consider that they are betrayors. Some rightists consider that they receive the nomination only because of the "political correctness".

Do you have any examples of this phenomenon?

Mia Love was promoted a lot by the right-wing media as the "first black Republican woman in Congress", which was true, but she was joining several unheralded black Democratic women, so...

Also she was the first Haitan-American in Congress altogether, and one of the first people with Afro-Caribbean ancestry in Congress, but few media sources, right or left wing, pointed that out. Our local media promoted her being black (and also Mormon) a lot, though that's a symptom of the local Mormon-influenced media here.

Pretty simple: almost exclusively, whenever a minority is becoming the first ________, it is through a left-wing vessel for change. By the time the right gets around to doing it, it's old news or has to be prefaced with "Republican", "conservative", etc.
