I doubt he will be unopposed in the GOP primary.  Good chance Bill Bolling runs.  Remember, he wanted to run in 2009, but did the gentleman's thing and stood aside for McDonnell thinking the nomination would be his in 2013.  Then in 2013, he realized he didn't stand a chance against the nut job in a state convention and again stood aside.  Imagine how he must feel now knowing that had he been the nominee in 2013 instead of the nut job, he'd likely be Governor right now.   Now may be his last chance.

Gillespie is the Republican equivalent to Terry McAuliffe.  The Democrats should win as long as they don't nominate the equivalent to Cuccinelli.  Northam is a solid candidate, and should do well.

Bolling now finds himself in a "my party left me" situation.  Bolling could make an Indy run for VA-GOV in the future, but the time to do that isn't with Northam vs. Gillespie in 2017.  It would be with e.g. Herring vs. Obenshain in 2021.

Tilt R

The worst part is, Wikipedia said he was the only one who declined to run.

Will endorse unless Snyder or Wittman run.

He gave a very firm no at least twice. This is a complete change of heart.

If he wins, RIP Virginia. I don't think we can take two f[inks]ing corrupt party chairmen in a row.

Will literally vote Democrat for the first time in my short time voting if it's between Northam and Gillespie.

Out of curiosity, who do you vote for?

Wish Herring would run, but obviously Northam is endorsed sans a primary

From the perspective of a human, Wittman > Gillespie. Hopefully both lose to Northam, though.

Don't know what to make of this, but a friend of mine (from Virginia) and I ran into Jim Gilmore (after he dropped out of the presidential race), and he told my friend that he would need his help soon.

The Dark Gil Returns

Coming November 2017

The Gillespie/Wittman type of moderate has consistently blown out the Deeds/Northam type of moderate in post-Voting Rights Act VA.  Perhaps 2014 was close with extremely low turnout because Gillespie and Warner were running as the same type of moderate?

> Moderate
