What would have been the results if Christie had faced Corey Booker in the Gubernatorial election rather than Barbara Buono in the NJ 2013 election?

A closer race, but I think still a Christie race. And Booker becomes semi-damaged goods.

Was 2013 GOP leaning in general or did New Jersey just like Christie?

New Jersey liked Christie. Democrats generally considered him to be "relatively sane" for a Republican, and he was still quite popular after his handling of Sandy.

Cuccinelli lost in 2013, so it wasn't so much a GOP year in NJ but rather a Christie year. Republicans gained no seats in either state house.

Christie 53-47, I think. Booker could have driven up turnout, but popular governors don't lose in off-year elections.

There's a reason Booker didn't take this chance.

Honestly Jersey 2013 is pretty much Nixon 1972.  Lackluster opposition candidate but really no major complaints going against the incumbent.  And almost nonexistent coattails as some people mentioned.  I'd say Booker is the Dems' best chance, and even then it's still a comfortable (though definitely closer) Christie win.
