Rubio probably got a temporary debate bump and is now shifting back to the middle of the pack.

It actually makes sense.  You don't want to put all of your eggs in one basket.  For example, someone who only invested in Walker would be out of luck right now.

Bush donors are also hedging, probably split between Rubio and Kasich. And a lot of big establishment GOP donors are still waiting to see which one of the three (Bush, Rubio, Kasich) emerges as a consensus. Each one has strengths now. Bush and Rubio are tied nationally but he still has more money, Kasich leads both in NH, Rubio edges out both in IA. And of course all 3 are trailing the outsiders. The establishment types aren't used to this, by this time they usually have their guy.

"The field has got to narrow...therefore I want as many of the people I like as possible to be in it"

A la Boss Tweed: "I don't care who does the electing, so long as I get to do the nominating."

Rubio's uber-poiitical background in an outsider year is a huge negative.
