Makes as much sense as any other explanation...

What caused the collapse of the Freedom Party? They didn't even stand in the two seats they won last time.
Also, who had been governing the country, as the last parliament appears to have been hung?

Thanks for those results. I never realised that the party of Eugenia Charles was in such a pitiful state these days

Just proves how yesteryear's in's can be today's outs!

I've just to admit, while I'm centre-left myself, I think it's bad that Dominica is dominated by two socialist parties. Dominica needs a stronger conservative opposition

well, if they wish to remain the backwater of the Carribean, then voting for two socialist parties is the best way to insure it.

They are a relatively backwater country especially when compared to other Caribbean nations. Dominica is very poor, not many people visit, and does not have nice beaches. Those are three huge strikes for any Caribbean island. All of those islands rely upon tourism to generate money. What usually attracts tourists to certain islands are the beaches. The problem with Dominica is that their beaches are either black or brown sand, which is not very desireable, and that those beaches are prone to rough currents and serious wave action making them bad for swimming. With this one-two punch most tourism is eliminated. Dominica though has done rather well in trying to make itself an eco-tourism haven but that does not bring in much money as normal forms of tourism do.

Surely that's not the fault of the socialists, is it?

No it isn't. More to do with poor natural resources than anything else. A fine stretch of white sand beach can mean the difference between poverty and properity on these Caribbean islands.
