At least 10 dead, 20 injured at community college in Roseburg, Oregon.

EDIT: Threat no longer active (gunman neutralized); some reports indicate 15 dead.

This is why I send my kids to a private school with a big wall around it and metal detectors at the doors.

Two things will be almost certain:

1. the firearm(s) was legally purchased.
2. the mythological "good guy" (i.e. private citizen) with a gun was once again nowhere to be found.

If only children were allowed to legally purchase firearms and open carry them at school!

Correct.  It was a gun-free campus.  No armed good guys.

UPDATE - Gunman dead.

According to one witness (unconfirmed), she "saw the gunman asking people to stand up and state their religion and then start firing."

Authorities are yet to confirm the # of fatalities.

Incorrect. Where were the good guys with guns?

Guns or no guns, why are people deranged enough to kill people in mass numbers and why does it happen in general? Sure, you can take guns away from people (it won't stop anything but dream on) but that doesn't change the fact that enough people are deranged enough to make this happen or at least fantasize about it. There is a deep mental health crisis in this country that gets ignored by the usual suspects due to their strange gun fetish.

And that's why Republicans voted to increase mental health funding.

Oh wait...

Spare me with the faux outrage. If you and your party cared about the victims then you'd stop groveling at the feet of NRA.

Another day, another school shooting. It says a lot about our country when we deem mass shootings and child massacres in elementary schools a necessary evil to prevent even sensible regulations to stop this kind of thing from happening.

I care more about the constitutional rights of citizens to own a firearm than I care about the (relatively minor) consequences of the right to own a gun, sure. Background checks should basically solve the problem. But sooner or later, another shooting will occur and the goal posts will be shifted again.

I'm sure the friends and relatives of the victims will be much comforted with the thought that their loved ones were killed in order to protect the gun nuts right to carry firearms completely unchecked.

What can we do to stop these kind of things from happening? How do we fix our violent and morally bankrupt culture?
