Any potentially serious candidate who decided not to run because they viewed Clinton as being unbeatable for the nomination must be feeling rather stupid at the moment.

I would agree. I think Booker and Beebe are feeling that right now. Beebe would have been excellent. Southern, moderate Democrat white male governor that could have done well.

Neither Biden nor Warren seemed to regret anything just a few weeks ago (Biden even more recently)

Klobuchar, maybe.

She's not going to be a stronger candidate if she stays in Washington longer. This time around she could have offered Democrats skeptical of Hillary the milestone of first female President.

She'd be under 5%

Warren doesn't want the presidency. But I'm inclined to say the nod would be hers if she did.

Gillibrand and Klobuchar

Also, I made a thread with this same topic a few weeks ago:

I doubt this, she'd draw a decent amount of Hillary's female support just by being a woman because I think Hillary's gender is the biggest thing keeping her afloat along with her name ID. Klobuchar is also right next door to Iowa and very knowledgeable on agri issues, provides great contrast to Clinton negligible baggage, easygoing with people, nice and approachable etc.

Obama.

Warren evidently has no interest in the presidency; she's more powerful in the Senate.

I think Cory Booker, Klobuchar, Gillibrand, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, and John Kerry all could be at 5-15% and look like plausible alternatives to Clinton. Then again, they could also all be in Martin O'Malley territory.

Yes, and as a Clinton-opposer I'm annoyed with them that they're not running.

Kerry is not going to run, he's going to retire. Plenty of potential fresh face have screwed themselves by not standing up to Mrs. Inevitable's intimations and her attack dogs DWS and Bill.

Of those who might, I'd back Dean, Booker, Patrick, Heinrich, and... Maybe Newsom?

I'm sure Al Gore is probably kicking himself a bit.

No, even Gore had chances to win in 2004 or 2008. I honestly think he doesn't want to give the Presidency another shot.

Warren MAYBE. She obviously prefers being in the senate but given her current age of 66, 2016 was probably her last chance to run (especially if Clinton/Sanders wins and is up for reelection for 2020, then Warren would be roughly 74 if she ran in 2024). Knowing that this was likely her last chance could be causing her some regret.

If Warren had run instead of Sanders she would be beating Hillary right now.

He might regret that he can't run for a 3rd, but he probably knows that he would be the underdog if he could.  The only paths to a 3rd Obama term would be a Trump independent run or through the electoral college because he might be able to muster 48-49%.

Obama would win 2016 with a larger margin than 2012. Every candidate in the current GOP field is weaker than Romney, which is astounding.
