Also of note: Trump is less popular within his own party than any other recent major party nominee:

Of course, the same can be said of Jeb Bush.

Er....excuse me! Is it July 2016 already...or maybe I didn't get the memo about Donald Trump being the nominee. So how did he become the nominee? Somebody explain that to me. I know there has been no primaries or caucuses held yet. Oh I see somebody is living in a fantasy world? Trump as the nominee! That's really hilarious😀😁😂😃😅😂

Gotta love treating best fit lines based on 12 observations as predictive.

Where is Romney? I thought Romney was in the negatives most of the time when he was running for the nomination in 2012.

Romney's one of the three dots clustered together below the line.

In the negatives among the general electorate, not among Republicans.  The figure is for favorability among your own party.  Romney was ~+30 among Republicans at this time four years ago.  Not great by historical standards, but better than what Bush and Trump are getting now.

What a complete and total joke Nate Silver has become.

You mean when more people know about you, the absolute favorability is higher?  And in your own party, you're likely to have a net positive favorability?  Shocking!

BTW Trump is less of an outlier than George W Bush

Seriously, it's like he doesn't understand math. Dukakis and Clinton are not in the relevant range. Primaries have changed since then. Gore and Bush are virtually irrelevant as their primary season operated entirely differently. They were both inevitable. On top of that, he's taking Trump's favorability on a down swing almost intentionally. It was fine a week ago. Like many Atlas posters, he can't understand this is not a static value?

Also, might be just as useful to run a regression on favorables of unsuccessful candidates. Hint: They ain't what they used to be. Favorabilities are way down. Carson is a rare exception. Does Silver want to say CARSON is the nominee?

I'm not saying Trump will be the nominee. In fact, I just sold almost all my shares today as I was happy with my profit for now. I am saying Nate Silver should be required to give back any college degree he ever got because the CLOWN has NO CLUE. This would never be published by a serious person. It pains me how stupid he is. No concept of time or human feelings. Tried to compare it to just 2012 with Romney and fads too, but likewise, that failed miserably because it is a completely different primary season.
