Leaving an oppressive regime that is effectively an Iranian client state in power leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.  Also, this result would escalate the Sunni-Shia conflict in the region.  It certainly won't solve any problems, and lead to more long term instability in the region.  

The sad thing is, short of using military force to oust Assad, it may be our only option.
