Raises his profile for a Senate campaign in 2018, so I don't see why he wouldn't.

Conservatives are hopping mad that McCarthy blew the lid off their plan to destroy Hillary, I could see him making it very close or even winning. He's a better candidate for the Freedom Caucus than Webster, that's for sure.

Hope he goes down in flames after his betrayal of Meadows.

I would say so. He was considered a rising star earlier this decade, but has faded a bit. This will raise his profile once again and set him up for a Senate run in 2018.

Oh, I guess it was leaked before he officially announced it.

Find myself agreeing with this.

Freedom caucus apparently is endorsing Webster.

It's like they want to be irrelevant.

Webster has this little problem that is district is going to disappear (unwinable by a Pub), in every map being considered by the Court. So he will need to carpetbag into a new CD and hope some Pub retires.

It's actually not a bad strategy - if they back McCarthy it will be seen as a betrayal, and may result in conservative challenges. Backing Chaffetz is a no go - he's the one who removed Mark Meadows from the committee, completely untrustworthy. Webster is the perfect person for them - the most conservative choice, and one with no chance of winning.
