In hindsight, Trump really should have announced his campaign in november 2015. His brand of populism has an expiration date and that date seems to be approaching. However, I still wouldn't rule him out of contention at all.

One possible strategy would be laying low for a while and then go full Trump on everybody in january.

This will no doubt be coming more as the TPP discussion heats up later this month.

For now Trump needs to focus on fundamentals like ground game in IA and NH and in giving more big rallies to demonstrate strength. The ads should come in November.

Anyway, Donald needs to reevaluate his strengths. What is his third best quality after himself and negotiating? Entertaining obviously. He needs to put on the whole song and dance - change up the routine. Bring in hyyyyuuuugge talents from across the US. Show people they don't have to be just him as great as he is. He needs to start ignoring the issues because we care more about who he is.
Then he needs to get all his charities involved. Remind people how caring and loving he is.

Also:  He should take a Kasich line on Iran while advocating ways to get us out of the Middle East quagmires.  He should discuss how we shouldn't be there in the midst of squabbles, while emphasizing that these squabbles (many of them, anyway) have little to do with VITAL American interests.

He should also blast Fiorina as an irresponsible warmonger.  He should call her out, and state that peace occurs when we talk to our enemies and find common interests.  He shouls point out that this is what Reagan did.  He should also point out that Reagan NEVER refused to negotiate with the Soviets and NEVER engaged in pre-emptive wars.  After all, says Trump, the REAGAN foreing policy made America great, while the Bush 41 and Bush 43 foreign policies shot this country to hell.
