He’s finally close. Confidants of Vice President Joe Biden expect him to make a decision next weekend, or shortly thereafter, on whether to launch an epic battle with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Several people who have visited Biden recently said he seems to be leaning “yes.”

“Nothing he has heard in the past couple of months has deterred him,” said one Democrat close to the process.

A former Senate colleague of Biden’s said, after visiting the vice president, “He loves what he does, and he has a great deal of confidence that he could contribute in a meaningful way. He’s willing to face, ultimately, having his final political expedition be a defeat.”

It’s just that possibility that has some friends telling POLITICO that they hope he’ll ultimately decide to take a pass.

One person who’s in the “bearish” camp said he thinks that testing the waters has been its own therapy after Biden’s loss of his son. The vice president has been showered with love and attention, and should declare victory and avoid a likely political debacle.

I don't mind if Biden enters the presidential race. just wish people would stop speculating he would. No offense OP, just you here about this daily and it's time for Biden to jump in or fade away.

I understand he's in mourning but he needs to stop "leaning" and "growing comfortable" and start doing. Time is a factor.

Brand new ballgame if Biden enters and GOP should be nervous.

Unless he has a tip that Hillary is going to jail, he needs to stay out. There's no way his heart can be in it, and even if he does beat her, he's a weaker general election candidate without being significantly different politically. He's a high-risk, no-reward candidate compared to Hil.

Biden
-Isn't tainted by scandal or thought of as corrupt by a majority of Americans
-Has been a popular Vice President, whereas Hillary was a so-so SOS and proved incompetent at her job
-Isn't tied to a political dynasty, which Americans right now are tired of
-Is genuine, blunt, not too politically correct, and can speak off the cuff - which is what American seem to want.
-Has genuine charisma where Hillary does not.

Hillary is divisive even among Democrats. A good chunk of liberal Democrats hate her, and the GOP DESPISES her. With Bernie already helping to deepen the divide in the Democratic party, you'll have low Dem turnout if Hillary is the nominee (because the base won't want her), while you'll have high GOP turnout because Republicans hate her that much. Hillary is sort of our Mitt Romney.

Our Vice President doesn't have these problems. I believe he can not only hold together the "Obama coalition", but also might pick up a few white, blue collar voters too.

If it's a no, Friday. If yes, Monday. Since I think he won't run, Friday.

This leak shows they are taking the chance of him running seriously and it is a shot across the bow to Biden to let him know they aren't going to play nice.

The Clintons play extremely dirty. There are so many lying hit pieces on Sanders right now in the "media".

Of course... it's always the Clintons. Jesus. Not that someone ever had uneven positions or someone else leaked.

It's revolting how Biden and his camp use his personal tragedies for political gain.

It's revolting how Biden and his camp use his personal tragedies for political gain.

It's revolting how people jump on something done by a movement which isn't run by Joe Biden and then proceed to say it was done by "Joe Biden and his camp."

I thought the average forum-goer had the cognitive functioning to understand that a movement to draft Joe Biden isn't Joe Biden.

1.  I said "his camp", which includes anyone that flies under his banner.  This ad was made by his Super-PAC, and his supporters.

2.  Educate yourself about who leaked the story about Biden's son's dying wish for Biden to become President.  It was Biden.

I really don't see what the problem is.  Candidates talk about their life experiences all the time.  Its how they connect with voters.  Do you seriously think that candidates shouldn't talk about the sad parts of their life?
