Keep voting on proposition 1

Disagree

Also, to clear something up: The option that will represent Atlas's vote when the series is all said and done will be the median option. That means, unless an option has a majority, the option with the most votes will not always be the option that will be cast in the test. I think that's much more fair than first past the post.

I voted "Agree," but in reality it would depend on how the money is being spent.

Terrible question. One of the most expensive aspects of welfare programs are drug tests and other useless enforcement mechanisms antithetical to leftism.

This question is about spending, not what kind of empathy we have for the unfortunate.

Economically "center-left"? Really?

I Disagree. We need universal healthcare, food stamp programs, the current housing programs, and a guaranteed minimum income of about $10,000 for those making <50% the average income. Most other welfare can be stripped and streamlined.

Strongly Disagree, especially with the $19 trillion deficit and the fact that 94.6 million Americans are out of the labor force entirely.

And those with empathy would understand that more funding is necessary for welfare needs.

In fact, it should be the lion's share of government spending.

And it is. Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security alone are over 50% of the total federal budget, not including food stamps, veteran support, and other welfare.

I should have said discretionary and mandatory federal spending.

Looks like this needs a runoff as the disagree categories has the vote divided compared to the agree vote

I disagree with the question in that I don't believe that overall levels of welfare spending should increase (and disagree that it should decrease), but we can definitely take a look at ways the money we're spending could be used better. For example, we spend vast sums of money on our elderly citizens (and some of this gets sucked up by people who don't need it, for example in Medicare, SS, and our tax code regarding healthcare), but spend relatively little on children, teens, and young adults, who are far less financially secure and stable (something like 1/5th of children grow up in poverty IIRC?).

Strongly agree, and those who disagree should be given treatment for a stunning lack of empathy.

I like how this implies that whether someone is an empathetic person or not is determined by the amount of government spending they support.

5+4 = 9, but so does 6+3. Sometimes, people disagree about what would be the best way to achieve a goal, and that disagreement doesn't make them an inherently good or bad person.
