Roll Call's article After McCarthy’s Stunner, Republicans Who Could Be Speaker names Chaffetz, Hensarling, Roskam, Scalise, Price, Webster, and Sessions as possible candidates. Paul Ryan, Gowdy, Hal Rogers, Jim Jordan, and Mac Thornberry all said no. Republicans have also discussed the possibility of an interim speaker such as John Kline or Candice Miller.

Charlie Dent has also mentioned the possible need for a bipartisan coalition.

How do you see that coming about when he's already declined to run post-McCarthy announcement?

He's probably be taken out back and told "You will be speaker or we're going to beat the crap out of you".

I could definitely see a "Draft Ryan" movement succeed, especially in this climate. Though it seems like Ryan, as a sane person with higher ambitions, really, really doesn't want the job.

Exactly, unless he gets the job entirely on his own terms. It is a horrible job.

I call those people the surrender-first Republican establishment, who haven't even tried to use their power to force Obama to veto things and put him on record on the wrong side of public opinion.

I honestly have no clue who will be the next speaker.

I vote coalition speaker in support of Rep. Tom Cole with support from:

Rep. Tom Cole, Speaker
Rep. Charlie Dent
Rep. Peter King
Rep. Frank LoBiondo
... and who else?

That strategy would make more sense if the filibuster was tanked. Absent that, the atmospherics just don't work for the Pubs. It seems more like a refusal to compromise and gridlock, or an abuse of the system in the case of the debt limit (the spending was authorized but now we won't pay the bills).
