Which useless, undeserving, teary eyed internationalist will win tomorrow? The last time a person who deserved the Prize actually won it was in 2011 (Ellen Johnson Sirleaf). Maybe they'll give Clinton a prize to boost her campaign prospects (and avoid having to give the Clinton foundation bribes).

I sincerely hope that this (deservedly) most highly respected award wil go to Mustafa Dzhemilev.

And, BTW, the very fact that you bother to create this thread suggests that the prize has lost none of its reputation.

I see no reason why the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet doesn't deserve this.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the results, FWIW.

I guess that depends on what your point of reference is -- the prize has definitely been meaningless ever since it was given to Arafat, but that was a solid 22 years ago.

With that said, the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet has really, honestly worked towards peace in Tunisia, and they are a worthy recipient of a peace prize.

It's certainly not gotten better since its compromise with Nidaa in later 2013. The apex of Ennahda's control over politics was in 2011, when it really was a party that united numerous marginalized classes: in the South, the interior, and in the cities of Sfax and Tunis. Due to a lack of policy moves when they were in government - and, most importantly, the pervasive threat of terrorism throughout the country since 2012 - they've lost credibility.

In the interior, their inaction towards economic development and terrorism drove voters to abstaining, with some votes bleeding to Nidaa. In Tunis, they've lost ground to other populist leaders like Slim Riahi. In the South, the flow of Tunisians joining ISIS is proof enough.

One good thing for Ennahda is that it is still the most cohesive party in Tunisia; Nidaa is fraying on the edges. There are reasons for the party to stay in it for the long run; they cannot afford to incite the police, and they can wait for Nidaa to fall apart without their leader Essebsi. But they won't be declaring Sharia in the country any time soon.
