Assuming every Democrat signed the discharge petition, that's 188. Dent would need to corral 30 signatures from fellow Republicans to get the needed 218. 41 House Republicans are already [a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/230979243/Ex-Im-Letter-for-Signatures"]on record[/a] in support of reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank, so assuming Representatives Dent and Fincher have already signed, 28 of those 39 (minus Grimm, of course) would need to sign the discharge petition.

They've gotten the 218 signatures they needed to force the vote to the House floor:

Dent had floated the idea of a bipartisan vote for speaker because of the far right people in his party who don't want to get anything done. Dent should declare himself Shadow Speaker and just start working with the Dems and handful of moderate/Chamber of Commerce GOpers to send things to the floor via discharge petitions. There are enough votes in the House for Comprehensive Immigration and Infrastructure/Transportation to start.

It won't be much easier reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank in the Senate, apparently:

The best thing to come out of this leadership fiasco by far.

The House under the leadership of Speaker Paul Ryan has passed a transportation bill which includes the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank.  Given some differences between the House and Senate versions, the bill still needs to be reconciled with the Senate version (which also includes Ex-Im).

To all intents and purposes, though, this battle over the Export-Import Bank is nearly over.

I don't think it will. GE had said they don't want to deal with this sh**t again when the bank comes back up for reauthorization.

Why do liberals favor what is essentially a boondoggle for giant corporations? Liberal Democrats should be happy conservative Republicans are ditching one of the pillars of crony capitalism and corporate largesse.

I suppose the pragmatist in me would say that it is better to disestablish such programs multilaterally, rather than needlessly put yourself at an disadvantage.

Still, the fact that it seems to mainly benefit military companies means I'm not delighted it is returning.
