Even if there's a high level of defection, the amount of people switching from SPO to FPO will be dwarfed by the number of incoming Muslims voting for SPO.

They don't vote, at least not to the extent Europeans vote.

Was the multilingual pun of referring to a man named "Strache" as scary intentional? (For those over whose heads it went, strakh means "fear" in Russian).

Well, not in this election at least. And if it really gets to that many I don't see why-- if not in Austria, then in countries with more fragmented multiparty systems-- they wouldn't just form a Muslim Party, or something similar to one in all but name.

Here's the thing Muslims of different etnicities and sects can often not unite. A Turkish Muslim and a Arabic Muslim don't necessary enough views to be able to unite in what would be "ethnic" party. Of course in Austria the Turks alone (they make up 2/3 of Austria's Muslims) could make their own party, but they run into several problems, Kurd vs. Turks, seculars vs. religious, liberals vs. conservatives, Sunni vs. Alevi. Muslims in Europe (outside the Balkans at least) are simply too heterodox to be able to unite into a ethno-religious party, and many of them hate each other far more than any dislike they have to their host societies.

Strache, btw, failed (again) to conquer the bastion of Vienna yesterday.

Which means he shares something with the Turks, who also failed twice ... Wink
