Based off of similar threads, I'm expecting a heavy partisan divide.

Anyway, HP. Massive HP.

Accidentally voted HP (R) and it doesn't seem I can change it, like in some other polls. Meant to vote FF (R).

If time travel existed I'd support bringing a drone back in time just so it could take out his ships on their voyage

HP (I/O). 'His' holiday should be renamed after the indigenous Americans or Leif Erikson instead.

Why do Republicans like this guy so much? Are they just trying to be the party of evil?

Massive, massive HP.

Native American Day and Leif Erikson Day should both be celebrated instead.

Just like most every other 15th century figure. Ferdinand and Isabella, Vlad the Impaler, The Turks, Richard III and Henry VII, The powerful Italian families, the Popes, etc etc.

It is easy to single out two or three and hold them aloft as the height of evil to sanctify and absolve the others of their barbarity in a barbaric time.

I enjoyed “Home Alone” as a kid.  With “Harry Potter”, I never read the books.  So I watched the first movie, and wasn’t too enamored by it, and didn't bother with the other ones.

I don’t think I’ve seen too many other movies that he’s directed, but I guess he wrote the screenplay for “The Goonies”, so I’ll go with FF.

There's a film director with the same name.

Slight HP. But the more the Left and the Democratic Party continues to demonize Columbus, the more they will lose the white vote. Some Italians are leaving the Democratic Party. Native Americans are not even the majority of the country and they cater to the PC nonsense with "Indigenous Day".

Awful, but handwringing about his symbolic legacy literally more than half a millennium after the fact doesn't strike me as productive or as a good use of minority groups' unfortunately limited political capital (Italian-American, moderate hero).

As an Italian, I find it annoying and frankly kind of offensive that he's caught on as the emblematic figure for the Italian-American community. I get why, of course, but it's still a damn shame.

Want an icon relevant to both Italy and America? How about Giuseppe Garibaldi, who actually fought for freedom on both lands rather than for personal gain? Sure, he's not directly relevant to the United States, but neither is Columbus.

Let's make Garibaldi Day happen, folks!
