Hello everyone, I think that a new party should be founded, and invite everyone who wants to, to join.

We believe in deregulation, privatisation, and an overall laissez faire approach to business. But apart from that, we believe in a strong welfare system, advocating extensive benefits for our citizens, and highlighted by a national health service providing healthcare for all. We want a strong central government, but believe that more issues should be decided on a state by state basis(ie abortion). We believe in protecting our enviroment and would introduce extensive and wide-reaching legislation to do exactly that. We are strongly anti-clerical, and believe in a total and absolute seperation of church and state. We want a strong national defense that intervenes where needed, but doesn't overstep it's bounds or defy international opinion, unless our national security is immediately and directly threatened. We believe in a weak and loosely interpreted constitution. We want more power in the hands of the legislative and less in the hands of the judiciary and executive. Judicial review is a travesty and would be abolished if we ever took power.

I have decided to dub it The Radical Party, in honor of the radical parties of 19th century Europe. If this sounds like a party you would want to join let me know.

If I may be permitted to chime in, this is a very appropriate name, given the positions outlined above Wink

You support deregulation and privatization, yet you want to nationalize the health care system?  Very contradictory.

The government will only run a small number of hospitals, catering mainly to the poor and lower middle class, but open to all. Those who opt for private medical firms(basically the rich and upper middle class) will have a certain percentage of thier costs covered.

No, the party hasn't been officially founded yet, but I will register as an independent until this party is up and running.

That's not a good excuse for supporting socialism.

Giving people healthcare isn't socialism.

Socialism is a political theory advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of industries and services.  Taking a private industry(health care) and having the government do it is most certainly socialist.

We oppose government control of industry. We want an open system in which people are given the choice between private and public for thier healthcare. The choice between a slightly less efficient public system and outrageous bills is no choice at all for the poor in our society.
We are about putting power in the hands of the people. If that's socialism, then so be it.

I was talking about the bubonic plague. Tongue

Sorry, just every time I see "__th Century Europe" I have to say that.  Yet, Black Death is no laughing matter.  It killed 25 million people in 5 years and it took 200 years for England to reach census numbers near the pre-Black Death population.

I am a member of the Conservative Paty, and currently support them(barely, they have done a lot of things that have upset me), but my political idol has always been Gladstone and I would have been a Liberal until the 20's

And I shouldn't have said just the Lib Dems. They are based on classical liberal beliefs and are grounded in the European liberal/radical tradition

Well, I wish you good luck with you party, Tory.

All said and everything, it does sound quintessentially British.

Tory, you are still officially registered Independent.  You have to change your registration to be part of the Radical Party.
