About time we see common sense legislation, and I praise PiT for it. I had no doubts in issuing a veto on this bill when originally passed due to its content and the fact that only four Senators voted for it (just five on the total vote), and I think now is the chance to correct this mistake and scrap it.

The high abstention rate was what struck me in the original bill, though the law itself really was cringeworthy.

The original bill takes determination out of the hands of the workplace by creating a central vote in an industry, so people can end up union even if nobody in a given company wants it. It's the sort of paternalism that we don't need.

It requires negotiation with a central employers' association, which simply doesn't exist in many industries. The result could be that both union and non-union workers could go months or even years without being able to negotiate for a raise or benefits, because the necessary infrastructure has not been set up yet.

It's really centralization for the sake of centralization, who cares how many people get hurt.

I have no objections to this, and motion for a final vote.

I generally oppose weakening labor unions, but it's not clear to me why having an industry-wide union is necessary and/or beneficial for employees. After all, it's not like we have industry-wide employers.

The problem with unions this large is they are prone to becoming incredibly bureaucratic and corrupt. So yea, I support this bill.

One of the votes I missed in the 64th Senate as a result of Holiday Work hours. I did catch the override vote, but it did not matter. Thanks to collapse of the Center-right block in the Senate from the 62nd to the 64th Senates, there was nothing that could be done to stop this. Especially devasting in this regard was the defeat of Cris in the special election to replace Lumine. This Collective Bargaining Modernization Act had been defeated in the Spring of 2014, when the chamber had a center-right majority, but TNF reintroduced it almost immediately and when it finally came up again, the landscape had shfited drastically.

I can only hope the nominal purists who justified their defections on grounds of purity and "associations" are happy to have facilitated TNF's radical agenda. Roll Eyes

I was happy to vote against this as a representative of the Southland and I will take great pleasure in voting to repeal it as a representative of the people all across this nation.

Actually the act to be repealled by this bill, was twice defeated in the era of Good Feelings by the five member center-right block and the Duke Adminstration breaking the tie, before TNF finally got it through in December.

I am switching my vote to NAY. This would disrupt the fabric and faith of our nation; we cannot betray hardworking small businessman and workers.
