At this point who do you think will win???

Turnout is up significantly in the big cities (Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg) according to reports.

Which should help VdB a lot.

But it's generally high (and also up) in the rural areas, so this is also good news for Hofer.

We probably have to wait for the postal ballots which are counted tomorrow afternoon - because it's looking like a close race.

A reminder:

If Hofer is at or above 52.5% in the first ORF/SORA projection at 5pm, Hofer has won the election (with a 95% certainty).

VdB will do extremely well with postal ballots on Monday, but he's unlikely to net more than 2% ...

Even on Twitter, where several election commission members are posting stuff about turnout, there's no clear consensus about where this race is going ...

Rural areas are going heavily Hofer, Vienna and cities to VdB.

Looks like a total 50/50 race ...

ATV projects 72% turnout (+3).

I say 74%.

I know the competition has closed but I think it will be Hofer by 52-53%.

Thanks everyone for all the updates.

During British general elections the BBC election coverage stream can actually be watched from abroad so it seams public networks in general aren't that squeamish about it when it comes to election coverage.

That's no surprise. We Austrians like to shell out free stuff for foreigners ... Tongue

Btw Tender, voting hours in Austria really suck. In what civilized democracy does polls close at 5 pm? Even 6 pm as it is in Germany is ridiculous. Polls should be open from 8 am to 8 pm should be as a minimum.

Really? I am surprised at that. They ask if you have a television license to watch their official online streams (even though lying is possible).

In Liechtenstein you can only vote for 1 hour and they still have 90% turnout.

Also, Switzerland closes at noon.

But I agree: Polls should be open from 8am to 6pm in all precincts.

LOL at the reporter from the Financial Times. His English accent shone through when speaking German. There is definitely a lot of international attention on this.

I guess vdB will win this considering that exit polls tend to overestimate FPÖ support.

Wow so close in the exit poll, Hofer 50.2%!!

VdB wins Vorarlberg with 56.4% - does that give any sort of read for the national result?
