Point is they shouldn't be in Austria in the first place. Europe can't take care of all the handicapped people around the world.

I don't care if they're brown Afghans or white Swedes. A welfare state cannot survive if people that haven't paid a single cent into the system get 5000 euros out of it every month. I'd voice the same concerns if a bunch of white American liberal refugees (after Trump's victory) received the same amount of money in Germany or Austria. People on the left need to stop seeing everything through a racial lense.

War refugees that have crossed a dozen safe countries on their way to Austria. A dozen countries where they wouldn't be receiving €5000 a month in welfare payments.

Heck, I'm all for that. Problem is that even the most migrant/refugee friendly data shows that the vast majority of these people will have an incredibly hard time finding a job...ever. Which brings us back to square one: stop people from claiming asylum that have entered the EU via a safe country because any immigration policy that is based on bringing in a million people and then hoping and praying some of them will find jobs is inefficient to say the least.

Completely ridiculous that van der Bellen continues to state he wouldn't allow an FPÖ-led government to take office. What exactly is the constitutional basis for that hardline stance?

I guess vdB will win this considering that exit polls tend to overestimate FPÖ support.

What triggers an automatic recount?

Interesting to see Tyrol possibly wind up in the vdB camp. Interesting because I assume they'd stand to be quite affected by a once again more leftist migrant policy with the Brenner and all. But then again I have no clue whether the state leans left or not...

Which they will. Do we already have an accurate # on how many postal ballots are out there?

Have any absentee ballots been opened yet or are we basing predictions solely on past trends?

So presumably if a tightening of the race transpired in the final days of the campaign, the fact that those absentee ballots were sent in quite a while ago could potentially bode well for Hofer? Just spitballing here, but does anybody think Jerusalemgate hurt Hofer? Of course absentee ballots filled out 2 weeks ago wouldn't reflect that.

True, but in the end we're talking about such an immensely tight race here that anything could tilt the balance.

Someone on twitter said that people are able to vote via "absentee ballot" in the "wrong" precinct on election day. Presumably then these 500,000 absentee ballots are not part of the larger pool of "true" absentee ballots...

ATV sees Hofer in front. I presume this is their latest projection.

Where exactly can we find the exit poll data on how working class voters decided?

Did SORA release a PDF with their exit poll data?
