He and his namesake even share the same Christian name, both use the name affix "Jr.", both are Democrats, both are from the South, both lost a race in their respective home states, both were delegates to the 2012 Democratic National Convention, and yet they have never shook hands.

NC once had a judicial race between Jim Martin and Mark Martin, where Jim Martin was not the former governor, and Mark Martin was not the NASCAR driver.
