Yes to morality (to paraphrase Harold Wilson, if politics is not a moral crusade, it is nothing; indeed I'm unsure of how anybody can hold any useful political views without some kind of ethical core beliefs), but no to tradition - the present should not be held held hostage by the diktats of the past.

Not for traditions for traditions' sake, and not for government letting conservative religious denominations define what morality is. So strongly disagree.

Lol and who would the one to define "morality" and "traditions"? Strongly disagree for obvious reasons.

LOL, no, the way the statement is phrased. But sure, laws should have something to do with morality in many cases, but folks can disagree with what is moral or course.

I find it immoral to endorse a system that leaves some mired in poverty, and that prioritises profit over equality; and that allows centuries old injustices to fester. Why are so many leftists disagreeing with this question? (And libertarians as well, who presumably find violations of property and other rights an immoral beach of ethics?)

Probably becasue of the part of the question about traditions. At least, I know that's why I disagreed, since I would agree otherwise.

I mean a lot of people assume (because it is in the interest of such institutions to posture that way) that "traditional" institutions monopolise morality. To some people it's that strict dichotomy between the The Ireland That We Dreamed Of and the Celtic Tiger; and opposition to traditional norms leaves a society bereft of any morality beyond the quest for more material goods and capital. I don't have to belong to the Church to find the idea of Jesus's parable around the rich man and the eye of the needle any less resonant.

I agree in some cases, but I define morality in the lens of things like fighting poverty, ensuring humanitarian stances on immigration, and fighting for environmental justice. I don't think there should be any sort of theocracy, and 'traditions' that are discriminatory or detrimental ought to be tossed out.

I can't vote in this because yes for morality and no for tradition.

Very strongly disagree. The law should not concern itself with either.

Agree in the sense that morality and tradition should be protected from violence and coercion.
