I urge the VP to vote against this amendment, and if the amendment is attached then the bill should be vetoed because it would be awful to tie funding to a vague, and arbitrary job rate. I'm not usually part of the 'muh bureaucracy' crowd but this is like something you'd expect from a super bureaucracy. If anything the universities that need the most financial help are the poorer ones.

     Part of the issue that universities face is pressure to make pretensions to eliteness, as part of playing the rankings game. In the end, this is doing a disservice to the students at the university. There is nothing wrong with Chico State, but it's not Harvard. The institution, its students, and its graduates would be better off if they recognize that and gear their instruction towards practical ends that improve the employability of a Chico State grad.

I'm not sure I want to tie federal funding directly to unemployment or employment rate. Sometimes it's not always on the institution. And we don't need to hurt poorer colleges anymore than they are.

A little secret about radical Senators, they are usually the most inactive (example: Xahar).

Perhaps that is why they have so low approval ratings.

I wasn't fond of the way the previous amendment was structured, but I would have preferred some kind of tie in, then just throwing more loose money at college tuition, which will merely raise the underly tuition rates and force more people to need even more in student loans to get through college. If we want to make college affordable, then tuition inflation itself would need to be addressed some way or another.

It is similar to how with healthcare, healthcare inflation needs to be addressed to fix medicare and medicaid.
