2016:
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders had swept Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada. O'Malley had placed second(33.6%-32.7%-32.2%) in Iowa, and gotten nearly a quarter of the vote in Nevada. In South Carolina, he had been stumping hard November-December and from Feb. 21-27. He easily won there and would go on to limit Hillary to narrow wins in Texas, MS, and AL, while he himself won Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, giving Sanders most of the rest.

Sanders would go on until April 26, when he won every state except Maryland. O'Malley conceded May 3, eight hours before the Indiana polls closed.

On the Republican side, Jeb Bush and Ben Carson would struggle until March 3. Rand Paul dropped out in Mid-March and endorsed Wayne Allyn Root, a late entry to the struggles who had entered just before the March 23 deadlines. Jeb Bush ultimately emerged on top and picked Senator Joni Ernst as his running-mate.

Sanders won a narrow victory over ¡Jeb!

275: Sen. Bernie Sanders(D-VT)/Sen. Martin Heinrich(D-NM) - 50.7%
263: Fmr Gov. John E. Bush(R-FL)/Sen. Joni Ernst(D-IA) - 48.2%
000: Fmr Gov. Gary Johnson(L-NM)/Businessman Wayne Allyn Root(L-NV) - 0.8%
000: Minor Candidate(Person-State)/Other Minor Vice Pres. Candidate(P-ST) - 0.2%

In 2020, Sanders steps down and Heinrich wins the primary fairly easily, with his main opposition being Sen. Cory Booker, Rep. Jared Polis, and Gov. Keith Ellison. Rubio narrowly beats Gov. Christine Todd Whitman for the nomination by narrowly winning Minnesota. Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri serve as the knock-out blow to Tea Party Gov. Joni Ernst.

Discuss with maps.

322: Sen. Marco Rubio(R-FL)/Gov. Christine Todd Whitman(R-NJ) 52.9%
216: Vice Pres. Martin Heinrich(D-NM)/Gov. Gavin Newsom(D-CA) - 45.3%
Other: 1.7%
