- the GOP should/will become libertarian in the future
- the GOP/Democrats will inevitably die out because of this random info from 2012 exit polls
- when will Vermont become republican?
- when will Texas become democratic?
- what about a moderate third party?

How about your least favourite threads?

How every state is trending Democratic and none are trending Republican

- Obama won the 2008 Primary by a landslide
- Obama won 2008 by a landslide
- Bernie Sanders has support from Ron Paul supporters
- X candidate who claims to be independent will gain a lot of independent votes regardless of being a socialist just because he claims to be an independent.
- Claims of surge of Shy Conservative or Shy Leftwing, during election day threads.
- Libertarians will support X candidate and ignore their overall ideology because somehow they will ignore it and care about just one factor.

No it isn't.

Social issues change. There's no need for Republicans to moderate on the social issues of the future.

- Ross Perot's heavy criticism of Daddy Bush didn't affect his voters's opinions of who to vote for
- The GOP shouldn't compete in most PVI swing states
- Hillary will win every state her Clinton '96 & Obama '08 did
- Hillary will crack 40% in Arkansas

Oh yeah libertarian States is a good one. Especially people who insist that just because a state has mountains means it is libertarians.

Realigning elections and cyclic election theory are two more crackpot ideas, as is Duverger's Law.

- Bernie Sanders has support from Ron Paul supporters

I think I have seen some figures showing there is some truth to this. After all most voters are very non-ideological and don't entirely make logical decisions from an ideological PoV.

"GOP base is poor uneducated people" would be a nice one to stop seeing sense it's factually incorrect despite the fact that our liberal members and the media repeat it endlessly.

Seriously.  Just statistically, poor Whites from the Deep South don't make up that big of a percentage of their own states, let alone the whole Republican electorate.  A lot of people who liberals would call "racist" or "homophobic" or "Bible thumpers" (not that I don't enjoy tossin' those terms around, too) are fairly well off and college educated.  There are several very affluent areas of the country that are VERY socially conservative.

Half the garbage in this thread, for one.

But, beyond all else, in the discussion of American politics, there are two words that should result in someone getting shot on the spot:

"incumbency fatigue"

Also I suspect there are a significant number of people who have shifted their ideology from Paulesque libertarianism to left-liberalism/social democracy/moderate socialism in the intervening years.

Ohio is becoming like Missouri.

Recent trends will DEFINITELY continue infinitely into the future.

White people everywhere are realizing "I'm white. White people are supposed to vote Republican. I'd better start voting Republican now!"

People who ignore the US Senate. Sure, the Democrats will do great in presidential elections if they trade the entire Midwest for Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia, but they'll do terribly in the Senate if they're clearly only winning a minority of states.
