I excluded O'Malley and Lessig in the poll to focus on the two candidates who seem to have a plausible chance of winning.

I asked a similar question of Democrats here.

If I were a Republican I would want the Republican Party to win, thus, I would want Bernie Sanders to beat Hillary for the nomination. Republicans are tough, and they will crush Bernie Sanders like a bug.

Clinton. If she wins, atleast we know she isn't a true socialist like wacko Bernie Sanders, 2018 is another slaughter for Democrats, and we go into 2020 with a 74 year old Hillary Clinton vying for a fourth straight Democratic term.

Chances are though, she might not win and if she does it will be by the skin of her teeth. She's alienating many, many white voters and men are gone. Basically it's blacks+gays+single women and a few pajama boys. We'll see if that's enough but given her dismal track record, I kinda doubt she wins. But who knows.

If I was a republican I would want to fight against Martin O'Malley. Of the two listed both have significant enough flaws to make good opponents, but I reckon they'd rather fight against Sanders who is more untested and more likely to not unlock the fully democratic infrastructure (especially if Clinton circles take revenge, which they may well do).

I hate how socialism is thrown around like it's the scariest thing ever. The United States has medical coverage for the poor and elderly, food stamps, welfare... By many measures, it's already a state that holds many socialist values dear to the heart. I agree that Bernie goes too far, but it's socialism stretched to the extreme, not socialism "period."

In that he has a 5-10% chance of winning the nomination, I'd say so, yes. Clinton seems to be taking his campaign seriously.

I agree, but people only use words like that to describe the extent to which they're no longer comfortable with using that set of beliefs.  We all agree that we need taxes, that we need infrastructure spending and that we need a social safety net, just as Democrats all agree that we need defense spending, we need to have law and order and we need to maintain some basic cultural norms.  However, we all disagree to what extent those things are true.  Sanders wants to take a HUGE step in the direction toward *more socialism.*  I understand most here are not right-of-center on fiscal issues, but it shouldn't be unbelievable that those folks do not want Sanders' ideas implemented.

Anyway, I'm of the opinion that it won't really matter who wins the 2016 election.  The "centrists" (read: establishment candidates from either party) will more or less govern the same, and extremists from either party will likely result in the opposition making huge gains in Congress, rendering them less powerful.  I'll say that I want Hillary, as she is both a preferable alternative to a Republican (and, in my case, preferable over many Republicans) and a more flawed candidate (yes, I actually believe that).

Clinton. I want Sanders and his fringe politics to fade into obscurity as soon as possible, even if it means a tougher fight.

Is Sanders really that different from Clinton? I mean Sanders is hardly that more radical than the image he likes to project, as you might expect from somebody whose talking points include MY TAX RATES ARE JUST LIKE ESIENHOWER!!! and WOT ABOUT DENMARK!!

Sanders is fairly radical for the American electorate, and isn't that all that is relevant here whatsoever?

Probably. Like both candidates are pretty untested. Sanders last had a contested race when somebody else to the last pot brownie before him and they proceeded to have a stare-off. And Clinton really is a mystery - not a gopd sign when you've been in the public's eye for quarter of a century,

I used to want Sanders to win because I thought he'd be easy to beat (which I still do), but I think the consequences of moving socialism closer to the mainstream outweighs the benefit of an easy win.

So I want Clinton to win the nomination.

This, exactly. If Clinton wins, it'll just be another four years of Obama. If Sanders wins, we'll be starving in a gulag.

Please tell me you're joking. It's the 2016 board, it's really hard to tell with you guys.

I don't think he's joking unfortunately. He's a nice guy but he has a really weird obsession with socialism and communism.
