My fellow South Americans—

Over the past months, this country, in its infancy, produced a stable government that I believe set a strong precedent for the sessions of parliament that will follow. Thanks to the hard work of our representatives, South America has a solid constitution and has begun the process of defining itself as a nation. As a collective, with few exceptions, our citizenry values the rule of law, freedom, justice, and democracy. I have been pleased to see all elected officials conducting themselves in the spirit of these values—indeed, this first elected parliament of the people has much to be proud of.

And now, we are at a turning point that will exemplify the most important of these core values: democracy. Early last night, the Prime Minister formally requested of me the dissolution of Parliament. I agreed to comply, and today with this note and in my capacity as President of South America, I declare the First Parliament of South America officially dissolved. Our second election cycle is now underway.

As the campaign unfolds, I urge all candidates and parties to start a discussion that reaches every corner of the continent. Hash out your differences, present your visions for the country, and engage the voting population. We have gotten much right over the last two months; what we must do better is bringing our fellow countryfolk into the fold. I know this campaign will be hard-fought by everyone involved and I expect the final result to be close. Live up to the examples you have already set in your service to this country, and South America, no matter what happens, will be in good hands.

Best of luck in the coming days,
