Karl Rogue -- okay, he has inspired that Freudian slip, Karl Rove -- can win an election. But he wins on his terms, basically that he becomes the Party Boss, a right-wing version of a General Secretary of a Communist Party. He gets control of the President and the Party apparatus and thus as close to dictatorial power as is possible in America through his "majority of a majority" politics. That is how things went from 2001 to 2006, Eventually Americans get sick of that and dump the politicians who do his dirty work.
After Democrats took both Houses of Congress in 2007 he tried to order the Democrats about -- and they refused to do his bidding. When that happens his power and authority is gutted.
He is the worst thing that can happen to American politics short of a military coup or the usurpation of dictatorial power by the President. He intensifies partisanship by cutting out the other side from any relevance in politics even if it has a near-majority. The reforms that he promotes enhance the power of well-connected crony capitalists in commerce. He has fostered much rancor in political life that manifests itself in partisan polarization.
