O'Malley or Dolan would be fantastic, but its not going to happen. There will be no American popes in our lifetime... I voted Oullet. But my gut feeling/where I would put my money is Tagle or someone like him.

Well, my faith already has an equivalent to a Pope, so....

Seriously though, someone who could be a continuation of Pope Francis's style would be great. Who's the closest to that?

Preferably someone who would convert to Protestantism after taking office.

Disgusting. I don't try to ruin your culture (or lack thereof). Go back to your fear mongering. Let us be.

What exactly is my "culture" then? My background is about 50% Lutheran, 25% Catholic and 25% Baptist. And I'm not atypical amongst Americans, as I've said before, most Americans (at least whites) don't fit into neat little ethnic boxes.

Preferably a Catholic; anti-pope scenarios are always messy.

Why in earth or heaven would someone who would remain in the Catholic Church long enough and gain the respect of his fellow cardinals to be able to become pope ever turn to Protestantism at that late date in their lives? Or is this to be the first step in creating a unified anti-Church and you're eagerly anticipating it as heralding the imminent return of the true Christ?

Possibly I could see a Pope take some steps towards a rapprochement with the Anglo-Lutheran branches of Protestantism, but certainly not towards the Reformed traditions.

And of course it's not common for one to actually convert from Catholicism to Protestantism, what usually seems to happen is falling out with Catholicism and then converting to Protestantism a bit later. But far earlier in life than any Pope would be.

But it's all hypothetical, so I echo the statements.

I should be the next Pope. Although that is not the most likely scenario, no doubt.

There are many things I honor and respect about the Roman Catholic Church. It's disappointing that they chose the sword rather than honest discussion with those in the church who had a legitimate theological concern to address (Waldensians, Hussites, Moravians, Jansenists)

Doesn't matter--no matter who they choose, he/she will join forces with apostate Protestants and force Sunday worship (the mark of the beast) on the world.  When my LCMS minister uncle comes up to Michigan to torture and kill me for being a Sabbath keeper, I won't care who the pope is.  Tongue

Okay, but what does that have to do with saying that your preferred Pope would be Protestant?

If he were Wisconsin Synod instead of Missouri Synod, he'd probably go after the Papists first.

No--he would join forces with the Papists to enforce Sunday keeping and kill the Sabbath keepers, just as God showed our Prophetess.

How many times do we have to go over this? I already yielded that you have formed your own culture, and I am impressed. You should absolutely keep it. Unless you want to fit in my "lack thereof" check box.

You've jumped on the anti-Catholic bandwagon too? Sad

Honestly, I don't get why many of the posters in this thread are saying the Pope should be Protestant. I don't think the Pope should be Mormon, for example. And a Catholic or Lutheran shouldn't expect their preferred choice for LDS Church President to convert to Catholicism or Lutheranism. It's just rude to expect that the guy whose job is to represent over a billion Catholics, to be non-Catholic.

Hey, at least it shows they are sincere in their beliefs. I would worry about someone who claims Catholicism is heretical yet wants us to stay Catholic.

I'm pretty sure even BushOklahoma believed Catholics got saved, and he believed in mumbo jumbo Christianity. I find it hard to believe seemingly closer related Christians have that strong feelings about it, but oh well...

Sean OMalley seems obviously the choice. But, Francis may not die anytime soon.
