"@joesonka: Democratic Sen. Ray Jones on KET saying that Kentucky Democrats don't criticize Barack Obama enough."

This is a glorious march towards extinction.

Praise Jesus - this is great news!

This probably ends Edelen's chance at challenging Paul - what a loser!

I wonder how James Comer and Hal Heiner are feeling right now?   Would  Heiner or Comer been better or worse then Bevin, as Govenor.

Would Edelen have been reelected if he hadn't said that he planned to run for the U.S Senate at the same time as running for reelection?

I bet they supported Conway, at least internally.

Quite possibly. Bad move.

Maybe Democrats should invest more in their state parties instead of patting themselves on the back for an Electoral College advantage and openly ridiculing the lifestyles of huge segments of the populations.  Despite calls that the RNC has shifted way right, it's perfectly comfortable running socially liberal candidates in places like MA and IL; I think most Dems feel they're "past" needing social conservatives, and that's just wrong if they want to keep governors' mansions and win back legislatures.

Well, I guess I should've guessed that Kentucky would be... well, Kentucky. I guess candidate quality isn't an issue anymore, like it was in 2010 and 2012. Republicans will win red states, period. It's amazing that there are people happy about Bevin winning, but then again, there are people who think Ben Carson should be president, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Enjoy your schadenfreude, Republicans, but don't act like you're not a bunch of sore losers when you lose.

Everyone is a d^ck when they win and a b^tch when they lose!  Haha.

I just can't wait for 50 years from now when people look back and say "well the KY Dems were conservatives, they'd be Republicans today!"  More conservative than the national DNC =/= conservative.  There's a reason we've had Democrats vs. Republicans forever, and just as every Dem wanted Conway tonight, if this forum existed in the early '90s, people would have been cheering feverishly for the Southern Democratic delegation to hang on.  Southern Dem =/= Republican.  Sorry for the random rant, but these local elections are always a reminder of that.

If it helps the Democrats here any, the new mayor of Indianapolis is a Democrat, Joe Hogsett.

The thing is, if polls had showed Bevin leading by high single digits, it would hardly have been a story at all. Democrats don't have any reason to feel bad about losing the Kentucky Governorship as long as we still have control over part of the Legislature.

How long do you think that's gonna last at this rate?

These days, progressive power is almost exclusively confined to central cities.

What are you talking about? Conway pandered to the right virtually every step of the way.

Yeah,  the Democrats are doing really well in the NJ legislature as well.

It really seems like Country = Republicans and Cities = Democrats is becoming all too true across the country.

Indian reservations are a pretty big exception, as well as right along the Mexican border and the Black Belt, but otherwise, yes.

A Republican hasn't been elected KY AG since 1943.  That trend continues by an eyelash.

It's the point I've made for a decade on this forum. Over the last three decades the Dems moved from a labor party to an urban party. Some say that started after the 1984 presidential defeat of the last  traditional New Deal Dem. Clinton certainly used the shift by 1992 to pick up urban elites (ie upper middle class suburbanites) successfully. Then in the 90's the Pubs moved to flip rural Dem counties in a trend that continues to this day.

The shift from labor vs business to urban vs rural is the real realignment of this era.

No. His race was low-key enough for him to win. But he'd lose if he went for the mansion or the senate.

Is the Democratic Party worth it? Evidence points no.
