Assume Governor Bevin just to keep it simple if that Senator is Paul

If Ted Cruz somehow became president and Will Hurd survived in his swing district, I think the Republicans would do well to have a former CIA, Urdu-speaking African-American as the junior senator from Texas.

If Rubio became president I would assume that his seat would be held by a Republican anyway, so just a placeholder if they needed one.

Paul would probably be replaced by whatever Congressman a Governor Bevin thinks is most like him (and to spite McConnell).

If Graham somehow became president (or retired/resigned after his campaign went kaput), then I guess anyone but Mark Sanford would be a good choice for South Carolina's next senator.

If there is an open seat in KY, I'm sure Gov Conway will appoint Edelen.

I'd prefer someone more liberal, but Peter Welch is the most likely to replace Bernie.

Rubio - nobody, race will be decided on election day 2016
Cruz - Pete Sessions? George P. Bush? Many possibilities here.

Longshots

Paul - Edelen under Conway, Massie under Bevin.
Sanders - Welch under a Democrat? Under Phill Scott? I don't even know.
Graham - Not happening, but it would be Gowdy or Mulvaney

VT is a special case, because there is an interim replacement, then in Jan, 2017, a special election is held. There is an interim three mnth replacement by a gov, then a special election follows, in which Peter Welch will be elected. But, Bernie isnt going to be prez. He's going to finish his term, and Welch will be elected in 2018. This is Bernie's last tour duty as Senator.

What makes you think that? I think he could easily be one of the 90 something Senators.

Peter Welch is Democratic Senator in waiting anyways, whether its Pat Leahy or Bernie Sanders.

If Sanders were elected President/VP, wouldn't he just resign the senate seat in December to ensure that Shumlin appoints his successor?

Of course if a Republican is elected governor, he'd resign while Shumlin is still governor so that a Democrat could be appointed.

The only Senator who really stands a chance at winning and who isn't retiring anyway is Cruz.

I don't know much about Greg Abbott, but I think Jeb Hensarling would probably at least be considered. He seems like the most prominent Representative from Texas, is still reasonably young (58), and he only has two years left before being term-limited as Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

Cruz: Will Hurd (whether he wins his House election or not)
Rubio (if an appointment even has to be made): Rick Scott will appoint whoever won the election, even if it's a Democrat
Sanders: Peter Welch
Graham: Trey Gowdy (who would reluctantly serve even though it seems he wants out of Washington)
Paul: Thomas Massie?

Ted Cruz:
Dewhurst, George P. Bush, and several others seem likely to be appointed by Abbott.

Robert L. Duncan would be an amazing replacement, but I wouldn't expect it from a man who defends Ted Nugent.

Lindsey Graham:
Matt Moore is a rising star. Jenny Sanford, Glenn McConnell, Knox White, and several others would seem like good choices, too.

Marco Rubio:
I'm thinking Adam Putnam, Connie Mack, IV, and Jennifer Carroll would be good appointments.

Rand Paul:
Thomas Massie and Jenean Hampton are the only ones I can think of that Bevin would appoint.

Bernie Sanders:
Miro Weinberger, Peter Clavelle, Tim Ashe, David Zuckerman, and Matt Dunne seem like the most likely people to be appointed. Then again, Doug Hoffer and Howard Dean are better known and much stronger candidates in a midterm.

If Sanders somehow ends up on a Presidential ticket, and wins nationwide, I think his coattails will be enough to elect a Democratic Governor in Vermont.
