I wanted to address the Senate but the Senate Protest and Analysis thread seems to be locked so I made this thread.

I want the Senate to check with the President elect if he was consulted for the Supreme court nomination. This is occuring very very late in the current term. The Justice resigning would have normally waited 4 or5 more days before vacating that job and swearing in for a new office. This could be a strategic resignation simply to choose which President gets to nominate.

To avoid this situation, the democratically elect President should have been in agreement with the nomination. The Senate should ask that question. There is no emergency to fill the position. It can wait three days. Just to be sure it's not some usual backroom political trick.

This replaced the Protest and Analysis thread I think.

That is one of many concerns my colleagues and I are already looking into.

What a fitting way for Bore to end his presidency.

Personally, I do want to hear the President-Elect's thoughts on this. As of now, I'm not feeling particularly supportive of the nomination (and not only because of how irregular this situation seems).

Here's the thing, this nomination won't pass. Even if we begin debate in the senate, it will not reach a vote by the time Griff swears in, and he can immediately withdraw the nomination. This situation is highly unusual, but it's nothing surprising for the Bore Administration.

Oakvale is no longer a supreme court justice so there is now a vacancy, and it is the job of the president to nominate someone to fill that vacancy. If the nomination is being discussed when Griffin becomes president it is his right as well to withdraw it.

I'm really struggling to understand the outrage here.

Obviously I wasn't consulted and obvious plan is obvious.

*sigh*

It's stuff like this: why y'all elected me.

This is clearly an attempt on Oakvale's part to ensure that Griffin does not appoint his successor on the court. I can't say I'm surprised, though.

As a matter of principle, I will oppose this nomination should it come to a vote before Friday, and I urge my colleagues to do the same.

This is really not necessary and it's just to spite Griffin and his presidency I don't support this nomination.

I first decided to accept PiT's offer to run for his Southern Senate seat partially because the body had decided Keystone Phil would be a fantastic Attorney General, even after he told the Senate he couldn't care less about their questions nor even his duties in confirmation. He then tried to pull an Al Haig, after two months of inactivity.

I would like to dispel a rumor that is going around the game that I like confirmation hearings. This is ridiculous, I do not like confirmation hearings. I Fing LOVE CONFIRMATION HEARINGS!!!

This is an excellent, excessively qualified nominee.  I urge the Senate to judge him on his merits!

Look, maybe oakvale resigned to stop griffin choosing a successor and maybe he didn't (although if he did you'd imagine it would have be done far earlier). All I know is that I, as president, have the duty to nominate someone I think would serve well as a supreme court justice  and that's what I have done.

The reason I didn't consult Griffin, someone who I have tremendous respect for, is because who is nominated to be a justice is not something people voted on at the election and it's not something, like the cabinet, which changes every administration. It is something, like honours given out, which is the responsibility of the president until he leaves office.

Bacon King would make a good Supreme Court justice. I hope that President Griffin considers appointing him.

Justice Oakvale has served this nation admirably, and since he's been elected to the Senate, he gets to choose when he resigns. The establishment wishes to besmirch his character, the problem is they have no case. There has been no candidate more qualified for the Supreme court than Bacon King, Attorney-at-law. He will have my vote and the vote of many other Senators representing the working class. Some of you will have to deal with it.

To all my haters: I challenge you to name literally anyone with a greater knowledge of Atlasian law than myself, anyone at all more qualified than I am to be on the Supreme Court. I am confident there are none (and I say this not in a braggadocios way, it's simply a fact that Atlasian law has been an obsession of mine for many years now)

Bacon King is an excellent choice for the Court on his own merits, and I will also be pleased to join Senator Yankee in overseeing the Star Chamber hearings. Grin

Bacon King is supremely qualified for the job.

Just because he is not part of the establishment that seeks to control everything is no reason to hold up his confirmation.

Give him a quick hearing and confirm him now.

Knowledge of the law is important, but is not the only critical consideration in the selecting of a supreme court justice.

Second longest serving Senator ever, long time close ally of one of the most powerful machine party bosses in the game (who happens to also be on the court presently) and appointed by a two term President. Yep, an outsider if ever there was one. Roll Eyes Tongue

Stop trying to stall BK's nomination by putting everyone to sleep, Yankee.
