TURNING THE TIDE AGAINST DAESH IN LIBYA

With much unrest throughout the Middle East, it is easy to overlook any one of the numerous crises currently unfolding. One notable crisis that has been causing great unrest is the one in Libya, in which Daesh has made substantial gains in the country over the past several months.

I have always stood for non-interventionist causes - in fact, many conservatives who voted for me and have supported me throughout my career have done so as a result of my strong stance in this arena - and I will continue to adhere to this concept. However, providing assistance to our allies in times of need does not fly in the face of my principles.

The State Department currently is in negotiations with the Libyan government to determine how Atlasia can best help in an auxiliary capacity in the fight against ISIS. In the coming days, I intend to announce plans for how we will do just that. Recent events in Sirte and beyond show that the tide is turning against Daesh in Libya. We owe it to the Libyan people, who have pushed over the past several years against extremism and toward a new, optimistic, democratic future, to prevent Daesh from turning their country into another Syria or worse.

I have reached out to someone who expressed interest in serving as Pacific Emergency Manager and am waiting to hear back from this individual. In the event I do not get a response in the next day or so, I will seek enlisting the services of one of the other 3 applicants who have applied.

STATEMENT REGARDING ISIS ATTACK IN THE PACIFIC

Our hearts go out to the men and women who were killed in this deplorable and atrocious attack by ISIS in the Pacific. I have spoken with the Governor, who has deployed the National Guard and declared a state of emergency in the Region.

Because of his swift action, I will abstain from federalizing the National Guard in the Region for now. Instead, I have instructed the FBI and other intelligence agencies to travel to the Region, to provide any logistical assistance needed by Regional and local authorities, and to begin putting together the pieces of the puzzle in terms of what happened and how it happened.

If further action becomes necessary due to future events, then additional avenues will be explored with respect to the Emergency Manager position designed to oversee times of crisis in the Pacific. However and at this time, the utility of such actions is dubious at best.
