/r/politics is the big one, but it's notorious for being the worst kind of left-liberal circlejerk (kind of like HuffPost in subreddit form). I think Reddit in general is a bad place to discuss politics; it will always be either that, libertarians, or neo-Nazis.

I continue to have difficulty understanding why socialists on here continue to oppose Bernie so much.

I can't speak for Bacon, but I think /r/SandersForPresident is mostly terrible, and I say that as a supporter of Bernie Sanders.
