Palin was Gov of AK. A small state. Only Lisa Murkowski is known. Castro is from TX., a big state. But, he may or may not be ready. It al depends on how badly she needs Latinos.

Irrelevant.

He isn't ready, period.  Nor will he ever be. It is unfortunate for him that Texas is so Republican he cannot gain more electoral experience, but that's just how the dice were cast.

It isn't so much about consolidating the Latino or women vote as about reassuring the country that she has a ready and qualified successor waiting in the wings in case something happens to her -without endangering any vulnerable (or potentially vulnerable) Senate or gubernatorial seats in the process.  A qualify that Hilda Solis provides.

He would be a popular Vice President, but not necessarily a good one.

On an unrelated note, I feel like it is only fair for any presidential administration to give Joaquin Castro at least a near-equivalent position as Julian for VP. Perhaps a high-ranking Cabinet position, or maybe the chair of the DNC.

Joaquin will be there as chair of DNC to usher in Speaker designate Becerra in 2022. The Castros will be there for long haul.

No way the GOP loses the House with Clinton in office. The only question will be does the GOP by 2022 have 300 members?

Castro will be picked. Hilda Solis or Kaine wont be picked. Solis being a female, and Kaine voted for Fast Track. And a host of GOP govs represents Dem senators. Castro is 40 and excites y2k generation.

No, he is a total lightweight. He will collapse under the national spotlight ala Palin. Clinton should pick someone very boring and inoffensive, but competent, like Tim Kaine. Not that it really matters but funnily enough, Kaine speaks Spanish- unlike Castro!

Does Castro actually excite the y2k generation?

Not as much as Sanders or Warren who, combined, are 100 years older than Castro.

Teamsters are opposed to Kaine and his vote for Fast Track

Julian Castro will represent the Y2K Latinos who dont speak Spanish that much except in TX, who are refugees.

Repeating yourself ad nauseum isn't going to make it so.

And anyway, I'm done arguing with you.

We will find out soon enough,  but on a plus side, at least Castro came to Clinton defense on Benghazi.

If the GOP were to pick someone half-way competent, then it would make sense for Hillary to err on the side of caution and go for a male running-mate.  Since it appears the base is insisting on electoral suicide next November, I think she can take a chance with a female running-mate (like Hilda Solis) instead, and go full-throttle grrrl power.

He's no Palin, but he's not ready yet.
Palin had executive experience on a state level, regardless of Alaska's population, so she was more qualified than he is. A state is a state is a state. A city is not a state.

Palin's two central issues, beyond her obnoxious personality, were that she had no experience with national- or global-level issues and she wasn't able to hold up under pressure and had a mental breakdown.
Castro not only has no experience with national- or global-level issues, other than his small tenure as HUD secretary, he has no experience with STATE-level issues.  And he has never demonstrated the ability to handle himself well in challenging situations or under pressure.  I don't think he's ever even been in a debate except for a show debate with state senator Dan Patrick that I can't find a video of.

He has been on Meet the Press, debating GOP on immigration reform.

Totally unprepared and unqualified for prime time.

Would be an absolutely horrible choice.

Doesn't even speak Spanish.

Would be like today's equivalent of Agnew, Quayle, Palin.
