Bay Area of course.

SoCal is known for producing hordes of R2D2core crap. Touche Amore are one of the few current Los Angeles hardcore bands (along with The Ghost Inside) and yet I've discovered now Worthwhile, a Bay Area band that basically sounds just like them but better.

To be fair this question would be more difficult in the 90s...but because of San Diego, not Los Angeles.

Is it bad that the only thing I know about about Bay area music is Train and Kreayshawn*?

*If you are thinking "who is Kreayshawn," it's best to keep it that way.

Hudson, NY's strength is in poets, Grumps. BRTD doesn't read poetry, so he's clueless in that department. In addition to my partner Dan (quite a fine, and published, poet), John Ashbery graces us with his presence.

They both have given us some awesome music, but I'd have to vote SoCal by virtue of the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean.

I don't know of any bands from Hudson, but the Capital Region of New York has some good music like State Champs, Drug Church and Self Defense Family.

I have no clue about today, but since the 50s certainly SoCal.  Laurel Canyon and the Sunset Strip both in the 60s and X-Black Flag Era.  Beach Boys and the Wrecking Crew.  Bakersfield had a major impact on Country.  NWA came Straight Outta Compton.  Plus San Diego provided us with Tom Waits (and even Jello Biafra).  You can deduct some points for the Eagles, but SoCal still comes out ahead.
