Regarding Hassan, https://twitter.com/caseymcdermott/status/666337228499488768
This is much more "delaying until american safety is sure" rather than not accepting them. There is a big difference between the 2. Although I obviously disagree with her.

Threads like these are great because you can learn who here are true racists like Green Line, The Hawk, and BigSkyBob.

I think blue and yellow avatars are usually pretty good indicators of this in general.

It is interesting to see a libertarian become a generic conservative in front of your eyes though.

Yeah, that doesn't sound that bad compared to the right-wing extremist in charge of my state.

So please people, regarding Hassan, she never said she didn't want to welcome the immigrants in New Hampshire.

The security issue is obviously pure blatant stupidity, but still, she's not a racist like Jindal.

Also it should be noted that the United States has a 12-14 month vetting process for potential refugees. So its not like 100,000 Syrians are going to be showing up tomorrow and it is extremely anyone with even a minor connection to a terrorist would be allowed in.

How is Hassan's position

fundamentally any different than Rauner's?

Both ask the feds to review the process to create greater assurance before resuming Syrian admissions. The difference between a state asking the feds to halt refugee acceptance and a state temporarily suspending refugee acceptance is not so great a distinction given federal control over the process.

I'm not surprised by Rauner, but Baker doing this is quite a disappointment, as is Hassan.

Umm, that's simple logic. Multicultural societies with people that refuse to assimilate face problems. It has nothing to do with color

How exactly can the governors prevent a legal immigrant from entering their state?
Will they set up checkpoints at state lines and ask them to show their papers?

The Refugee Act of 1980 gives the President of the United States the sole authority on this matter. These actions by Republican governors across the country are nothing more than the legal equivalent of throwing a temper tantrum. It is very deeply concerning the amount of hate and fear the GOP is allowing and encouraging to fester against Muslims, including those who are American citizens. By their logic, you could deduce that all Christians are blowing up abortion clinics and federal buildings.

Just like the targeting of a schoolboy with a clock in Texas, the spike of anti-Muslim hate crimes since 9/11, the outrage over a community center in New York, and the inflammatory comments of Terry Jones, this is another example of what happens when hate goes mainstream in America, and those of us with any sense should be speaking out and standing up against it.

I believe my point was to point out why the idea of refugees as a whole is bad, not necessarily gubernatorial authority to do so

What do you mean by that FreeBurd? the idea of "refugees"? Like the idea behind refugees existing in the world? You've made things more confusing not less.

Presented for your viewing pleasure..

The US has no obligation to take these people in, especially in the wake of recent events and their refusal to assimilate. This is far too risky.

Hm.

If refugees had no economic or cultural repercussions, then why aren't places begging to get them?

What kind of cultural repercussions could people refusing to assimilate bring, I wonder?

Multicultural societies with people that refuse to assimilate face problems. It has nothing to do with color

You seem to be fundamentally misunderstanding the meaning of multicultural. You see, you can't have a multicultural society when you demand assimilation from all people entering the country.. also, you are aware that racists aren't racist because they have aesthetic problems about the color of other peoples' skin, yes?

why the idea of refugees as a whole is bad

So the idea of refugees is bad because refugees won't assimilate? Wow, interesting!

Most of the Syrians are white by the way

Kinda shuts out the racist card since only non-whites can be discriminated against

lol

Once more that's not racist. Immigrants assimilate into their immigrate culture. When they don't, there are issues. Period. Multicultural societies collapse.
