You'd think that the fact that Amherst's women's teams are called the Lady Jeffs would strike people as quirky and charming.

In general, I wasn't aware people felt the need to 'identify with' a ing college sports mascot.

The realization that not everyone is the same as oneself might cause some distress. The thing is most people realize that when they're 2, not 20.

You can keep saying that, it doesn't make it true.

Exactly.  Just look at the reaction of Liberty University inviting Bernie Sanders to speak versus Trump attempting to speak by the University of Illinois-Chicago campus area.  Conservatives respect their adversaries; liberals do not afford such respect, and instead call conservatives names and try to kick them off of campuses.

Many socialists refuse to tolerate disagreement with their ideology, which they declare as truth.  They claim Popper's paradox and argue that because conservatives are "intolerant" of their radical SJW agenda - hating cops, wide-open borders, radical feminism, etc. - they are not worthy of tolerance themselves.  They hate everything America stands for.

SJW ideology has become like a religious command for many of these college kids. Because they have the Truth, no further debate is needed; only censorship of alternative viewpoints.

Is the PC Movement this bad that Trump has all but officially clinched the nomination? That seems like a bad overcompensation.

It is pretty bad. Just compare the Duke Lacrosse case to the recent expulsion of the Basketball squad captain at Yale. In both cases, the team wore gear in solidarity with their accused teammates and endured heat. In the latter case, they are subjected to far worse treatment for doing so, even being condemned as rape apologists.

It has gotten worse recently, and considering the power that the PC crowd wields on college campuses, it is hard to imagine the situation getting better left to its own devices. Trump may be an overcompensation, but the problem he is reacting is not one that can be left alone.

Not sure if anyone's posted this yet, but here's basically a compiled list of all the demands initiated by college groups:

*gags*

Awesome. I imagine there will be a lot of blatantly unconstitutional stuff in here.

The sad thing is, the administration at my alma mater is already in the business of bending over backwards to meet the demands from our BSU, even though a bunch of them are most likely against state law and even though we are currently fighting a budget deficit that has necessitated cuts to numerous campus programs.

The President agrees with us.

That's a really, really good quote. Hopefully it gets broadcast more, because he is 100% right and this is the attitude liberals everywhere should take.

Indeed. While I still don't agree with them on the issues, I respect the old-school liberals who want open discussion of those issues. The trend towards Orwellian thought that is finding root in the universities is intensely disturbing.

Why is it so hard for colleges to ignore a few idiots?

Because the faculty, or at least a large segment of it, supports their nonsense. The idiots didn't just pick it up out of the void; they are taught to engage in this behavior by their professors.

Not really. College academia may be left wing, but outside of some sociologists, no one's advocating this.

Most of them aren't too open about it, but you can find classes and departments dedicated to disseminating fashionable nonsense at pretty much every university. These people then go out and create a climate where it is unsafe to question said nonsense, and wonderful things happen from there.

Why should people whose presence in the U.S. is illegal be allowed to study at a university that receives government funding?

Ideological insanity. Marx was wrong on many things, but he was spot on that ideology can make people act in strange ways.

To paraphrase a good line by Céline, all the slavers of history had it wrong; all they needed to work men to death with the absolute complicity of those involved was ideology.
