A Cactus In The White House
1936 Primaries

The year is 1936. Franklin Roosevelt has died one year prior of complications leading from his polio. John "Cactus Jack" Garner, is President. With rumblings of war on the horizon, who will the Democrats and Republicans choose to lead them?

Democratic Party

President John Nance Garner: President Garner is running on a platform that is promising to not repeal New Deal policies, but continue on with his own semi-conservative policies.
Postmaster General James Farley: The former DNC Chair and the machine boss that got Roosevelt elected, is running on a platform of continuing Roosevelt's policies.
Senator Huey Long: The populist Senator who narrowly escaped assassination in 1935, Long is running on a populist and New Dealist platform.
Assistant Secretary Henry Breckinridge: The only candidate running completely against the New Deal, Breckinridge's only experience has been as Assistant Secretary of War in the Wilson administration.

Republican Party

Senator William Borah: The Dean of the Senate, William Borah is an independently minded Senator, who leans progressive.
Publisher Frank Knox: Another liberal, Knox also likes to put himself as the "outsider" in the party.
Governor Alf Landon: Landon is seen as the leader of the liberal wing of the Party, having served as the Governor of Kansas.
